15. Jaycob- An Epic Battle Begun
Wind and Electricity vs Earth. It's hard to tell who the winner will be, but I'm as eager to find out as anybody. I grinned inwardly as I thought of the massacre that was about to take place. I mean, it's two powerful elements against the weakling element that Joseph controlled. He wouldn't voice his taunts out loud like Kyle and Joseph did. He would just let his tornados speak for him.
"Five... Four..." Joseph counted as we all stepped away from each other, back to back, like in the old cowboy movies. "Three..." And when he got to zero, the massacre would begin. "Two..." Almost there.. "One.....Go!"
Immediately I had to dodge to the right as the ground below me began to rumble. Looking back I saw a giant stone pillar where I had stood, and it seemed that wasn't the last of them, as Joseph was began raising his arms, controlling the earth beneath us. With each raise of his arm, another pillar would appear where I was standing. I had to keep jumping around to avoid being tossed around by the pillars. I looked towards Kyle for help, or a distraction at the very least, but he was busy avoiding pillars as well.
We'll never win if this keeps up.... I thought as I began concentrating on wind, but quickly had to jump again. At that point, I couldn't take it any longer, I just summoned up and released all the wind I could at that moment before I jumped. Fortunately, the breeze directly into his face was enough to break his concentration on the pillars. I saw Kyle send a bolt of electricity at him, which Joseph barely dodged in time. I sent a gust of wind to his legs, enough to trip him, while Kyle readied another electric bolt.
As Joseph struggled to get to his feet, Kyle zapped him.
It was an awesome sight, Joseph's body flashed as he was shocked, and he flew back twenty feet. I think now he sees how serious this battle really is, and how painful our powers really- I grunted as a stone pillar rose into my gut, causing me to double over in pain. I saw Kyle on the floor beside me. A pillar must've got him too..
I looked at Joseph, so far away, still struggling to get to his feet. We all got up at the same time, stared at each other, wondering who would make the first move.
Kyle struck first, sending a bolt of electricity at Joseph, who dodged to the right and created a stone pillar, aiming at Kyle, who jumped over it. My turn, I thought as I made a gust of wind blow him closer to us, to make it harder for him to dodge from our attacks.
Kyle ran towards him, avoiding every pillar Joseph shot at him. I then fired a blast of wind at his legs to trip him, which allowed Kyle to send another powerful bolt of lightning straight to the face. The shock exploded, raising a load of dust and clouding our view of what we thought would be Joseph’s mangled body.
When the dust cleared, however, we merely found a stone pillar facing us, and loud gasping from behind him. Kyle readied another lightning bolt in his hand, but I stopped him from attacking, knowing Joseph was actually in trouble.
We ran towards him, “Are you okay?” I asked in worry. I didn’t want to lose a powerful rival like him yet, even if I knew I was stronger.
He nodded once and took a few deep breaths, “Asthma” he gasped out when he could.
Kyle rolled his eyes and mumbled “Chicken”
Joseph glared up at him as he took out his inhaler, “Don’t you have asthma too?”
Kyle stuck his tongue out, “Yeah, but I don’t use it as an excuse”
I sighed and rolled my eyes as I turned to stare off into the distance. This powers thing was cool, but why us? Does anyone get a random power from touching it? I wonder if anyone else from school will get… He widened his eyes in realization. He turned to face them “Do either of you know how to get home from here?”
He groaned as the replies were blank stares and utter silence. “We should follow Chris’s tracks, he might’ve found a road or something.”
Kyle and Joseph nodded as they followed their apparently new leader.
16. Letty- The Plight of the Light
It had taken a while (and a lot of my savings) but I had finally convinced my hacker type ‘friend’ to lend me a tracking device type thing. It seemed incredibly useful, able to find and home in on any mobile cell phone number.
“Thanks a lot!” I said as I smiled brightly at the device.
Jose waved me off and returned to his computer, hacking it or doing something complicated that I wouldn’t understand, “Just don’t break it, now go away, I’m busy”
I hmph’ed and stuck my tongue out at him, even though he wouldn’t see, then turned to use my newfound tracking device type thing. I typed in Chris’s phone number, and it seemed to point towards the desert near the edge of town. I shook my head in disbelief and retyped the phone number. Why would he be in the desert? He hates the sun! It showed the same location. I typed in Cassie’s phone number, and sure enough, it pointed at her house. So it’s not broken… I thought. I sighed as I got into my car and sped off towards the desert.
---------A while later----------
The device said the phone was straight ahead, about a kilometer away. Soon enough, I saw a figure in the distance. As I sped closer and closer, I realized there were three distinct figures, just kinda standing there. I couldn’t tell if any of them were Chris, but none of them looked like him. Sure enough, everyone but Chris was there: Kyle, Jaycob and Joseph.
“What’d you guys do to Chris?” I demanded.
They blinked in surprise, then Joseph spoke up “We’re looking for him right now”
Kyle spoke next “How did you know how to find us?”
Then Jaycob “And how did you know Chris was with us?”
She widened her eyes then turned away as she blushed, “I, um, it was luck!”
Joseph hmm’ed for a second then picked up an object nearby, “Hey it’s Chris’s phone!”
They all turned to look at her, each with a raised eyebrow, which made her blush even more and turn away again, “Anyways, let’s go find Chris! Now do you guys want a ride or not?!” She said as she got into her car.
They looked at each other. Kyle shrugged, then got in the vehicle, followed quickly by Joseph and Jaycob.
She turned on the AC then looked back to them, “What are you idiots doing out here anyways?”
“Hmmm….. Can we trust her?” asked Kyle.
“Considering the fact she’s the only one of us who knows how to get home, I’m thinking yeah” replied Jaycob.
“We’re here because of this” said Joseph as he pulled out the crystal.
“Huh, I forgot you had that. I suppose it’s a good thing I didn’t explode you then” grinned Kyle.
I ignored his comment, taking the stone in my hand. Immediately I felt a surge of power flowing into my body, through my very soul, waves of immense strength which captivated me. As my mind began to float back down, I felt something else flowing within me. It was different than the aqueous power from before. This felt so ancient and powerful, as if it had a mind and soul of its own…
A voice then spoke to me, in the form of an immensely bright light “Letty…. You are the purest of heart whose hand has graced this magical crystal… however, you are not my true vessel…. My true vessel is the human whose heart has been tainted by evil…. The evil of my twin brother…. Dark….. You must take me to my true vessel so that I may extinguish the flames of darkness from within her and free her from the Dark…. You alone can complete this task….. The fate of the world rests in your hands…..”
I had been silent until now, in disbelief of everything which had just occurred in the past few seconds, but as I regained my power of speech, I asked the voice “How am I supposed to do any of what you said, I don’t even know what’s going on!”
The voice seemed to shake its head, “All will be revealed to you in time…. For now, just find the vessel of the power of Psychic… take him to the house of the one named Josh…. He is the vessel of Darkness and must be defeated…. He has tainted the innocent mind of his sister, named Cameron, who is my vessel…. She must be saved…. You are the only one who can save her, and the rest of the world…. Go now… find the one named… Nolberto… the vessel of Psychic…. Only he has the power to defeat Dark…..”
“Nuh, Nolberto?” I asked timidly.
The voice nodded and suddenly released my mind, which caused me to pass out and slip into unconsciousness.
17. Kyle- The Vessel of the Power of Psychic
“I don’t know what’s wrong with her; she keeps muttering about vessels, the light, random shit.” I said.
Joseph sighed and drove on, using Letty’s car. She had passed out shortly after gaining her power. I guess some people just can’t take it. He shrugged, then exclaimed triumphantly, “Civilization!”
Finally we started seeing some modern age buildings, like Walmarts, after traveling around so long in the desert. We passed a MacDonald’s and cheered, “Whooo!”
“What’s all the commotion?” Letty said dizzily as she began to get up and rub her eyes.
“Ahoy matey! Land ho!” I shouted.
“Chips ahoy!” Jaycob seconded.
“Shut up you idiots” Joseph growled back, then turned to Letty, “You passed out earlier, when you touched the crystal.”
She blinked, then suddenly widened her eyes in realization, “The vessel of the power of Psychic! Go to Nolberto’s house!”
“Huh what why?”
“Just do it!” she yelled.
Joseph then quietly began to drive towards Nolberto’s house.
“God she’s scarier than Joseph..” I muttered.
“I heard that.” Scowled Letty. “You guys don’t know what’s at stake here, the fate of the world is in our hands.” She then explained what the light had told her as best she could.
“This sounds kinda…. Epic.” I grinned.
Letty rolled her eyes. “Hey guys, we’re here” called Joseph from the driver’s seat.
Jaycob frowned for a second, “How do you know where Nolberto lives?”
“I live near here, remember? You do too!”
“I know that, but I never knew Nolberto lived around here too. Weird.”
He sighed and rolled his eyes before walking up the path to his house. “His house is nothing too special.” he commented randomly.
Letty was the one to knock on his door, but received no reply. “Must not be home. Any of you guys know his phone number?”
“Yeah, why?” I asked.
“I can track cell phone numbers, now tell me what it is.”
I raised my eyebrow but did as she ordered.
“He’s still at school, it says”
“Oh shit! Chinese Yoyo club! There was a meeting there this afternoon!” I exclaimed.
“I’m guessing that means you know where to find him?” Letty asked. I nodded in response.
“Then let’s go!” said Joseph as he ran back into the car.
Chinese yoyos are awesome, but if I had a choice, I’d pick this powers situation over it any day. Sorry yoyo club mates. I shrugged as I got in the car. We then sped back towards the school. It isn’t too far away, maybe I’ll get some time to practice.
